Navigating Airport Food: Healthy Travel Tips for Road Warriors

In my line of work,  my gig requires that I travel.   I fly quite a bit and as some of you may already know,  smart,  healthy dining options are difficult to come by at airports.

Nowadays,  I have taken note that a few select airports now offer healthier dining options, but at a premium cost.

Today,  I offer tips on how to plan for any upcoming business trip(or even leisure trip) to help you in keeping your health and wellness journey on track.

Frequent travel can wreak havoc on your healthy eating habits. Airport food courts are often filled with tempting but unhealthy options. But fear not, fellow road warriors! With a little planning and preparation, you can navigate the airport food scene and maintain your healthy eating goals.

1. Pack Your Own Powerhouse Snacks:

Embrace the portable protein: Pack hard-boiled eggs, nuts, seeds, jerky, or protein bars.

Fruit and veggie feast: Bring along fresh or dried fruits, and pre-cut vegetables with hummus or guacamole.

Trail mix magic: Create your own trail mix with a blend of nuts, seeds, and dried fruit.

2. Hydration is Key:

Bring your own bottle: Invest in a reusable water bottle and fill it up before you head to the airport.

Skip sugary drinks: Opt for water, sparkling water, or unsweetened tea instead of soda or sugary juices.

3. Seek Out Savvy Options:

Explore airport lounges: If you have access, airport lounges often offer healthier options like salads, yogurt, and fruit.

Look for hidden gems: Many airports now have healthier options like salad bars, smoothie shops, and even local restaurants.

Don't be afraid to ask: Inquire about healthier options at airport restaurants. Many are happy to accommodate special requests.

Prioritize Protein:

Choose grilled chicken, fish, or lean protein options over fried foods.

Look for salads with grilled chicken or fish.

5. Mindful Snacking:

Avoid impulse purchases: Pre-plan your snacks and stick to your budget.

Practice mindful eating: Pay attention to your hunger cues and avoid overeating.

By incorporating these tips into your travel routine, you can maintain your healthy eating habits even while on the go

I typically pack an apple,  a banana and a baggy with mixed nuts in my laptop bag.

While in flight, I enjoy a coffee with one of my packed snacks.

I avoid the sugary cookies offered as snacks, and soft drinks just the same.

I am hopeful that these snacking travel tips aid you on your next travel adventure.

Please note: Always check airport security regulations regarding permitted liquids and food items before packing your bags.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Till soon,

Tommy
